Well, first, what happened to Magic Means and all my plans? Life called me away from writing this wonderful, sexy occult fiction for the better part of a year, and I was surprised at what I found when I returned. There are a lot of you reading this stuff, and it’s awesome. Just so you can see what I saw, here are the downloads for Magic Means:
Founder: Magic Means Book 1 Downloads – 6,282
Seeker: Magic Means Book 2 Downloads – 2,525
Other Book Downloads – Fewer than 300 combined
Total Earnings: $34.24 US
As you can see, I didn’t earn thousands of dollars during my absence, and that’s all right, I write this stuff for fun, but there is some really good news.
Magic Means is being read by thousands of people, literally, at least 2,525 people who read the first and liked it enough to get the second. There were pre-orders for Magic Means Book 3 as well, but I didn’t have a finished manuscript so I had to cancel the release. I am truly sorry about that. If anyone feels screwed over, contact me through this site and I’ll see what I can do (unless you’re rude about it).
Thanks to some stuff in my personal life I didn’t have time to finish Magic Means Book 3, but I did work on it. I wrote a sprawling bit of text that’s over 146,000 words long and takes the story forward, but not in the way I want. My editor and I have gone through it a couple times and we can’t find a way to split it up into different books and there are complicated, unnessisary details in there that don’t make the story any better nor do they serve the characters.
There’s a lot of good stuff in there, though. Most of it is useable, especially the romance, drama, and some of the ‘slice of life’ content where you can see growth in the shop, characters getting to know each other and then there are the faeries. There’s a lot to keep, and I’ll talk about what I’m doing with it in a minute.
First, I’m happy to say that I’m reworking the whole Magic Means Series. Books 1 and 2 are going to get a new edit where a lot of the details will be cleaned up. In terms of the romance and the character interaction, you shouldn’t be able to see a difference other than an improvement in the writing that makes everything clearer and more enjoyable to read. I don’t want to spoil what everyone likes about these books. Oh, and nothing is getting cut from Books 1 or 2. In fact, there are important additions being made. Everyone who already bought it will get an update to their copies for free as soon as I’m finished in a couple weeks, you should be able to see it pop up on the dashboard or user section of whichever retail site you bought them from. Failing that, those books will be available for free, so you can always redownload them once the new versions are finished, I’ll make sure I announce the completion of the re-edit here when I’m done with each book.
I’m doing all that work so I can write a better, more gripping and fun version of Magic Means Book 3. Most of the book will be new, with only the best of the original manuscript included, so it’ll be shorter, but much, much better. That’ll leave a lot of that old 142,000 word long manuscript out, so I’ll be including the best parts of that in Magic Means books 4 and 5. I’m really excited about the plans I have for this series, especially since I have new ideas and these great old ideas no one has seen yet.
I have to admit that while I was away from writing Magic Means for most of 2019, I didn’t stop thinking about it, even daydreaming about it. Something about writing the first two books was very freeing, fun, and promising. Now I’m doing everything I can to make those even better and I look forward to continuing in October, when I’ll be writing Magic Means Book 3.
I’m happy to say I’m back, and I can’t wait to dig in. Everyone who is wondering what happens next is about to get just what they’re looking for and more.
